Spring.

Current situation

Today and tomorrow it will be sunny in the Alps and he Pyrenees. Only Norway will see significant snow the next few days. A high pressure area is causing spring like conditions in the Alps and espacilally south faces will see powder transform to slush. If you are in search for powder you'd better head to Norway or go for North faces and thicker wood where the powder remains fresh and cold.

Keep in mind that the snow on North faces still contains a weak layer whereas South faces will see more and more wet snow avalanches due to the warmer temperatures. More info you can find in your local valanche bulletin.

Short term

Thursday will start sunny. But at the end of the day some higher clouds will move into the Austrian Northern Alps. Friday and Saturday this will cause some flurries and rain below 1900 meters. Saturday evening a coldfront will move in. Untill Sunday evening this might deliver 10-20 cm of freshies in Salzburgerland and Steiermark.

Powder regions: Salzburgerland & Steiermark, Ostlicher Alpennordhang, Voralberg & Tirol, Berner Oberland, Zentral Schweiz & Graubunden & Norge.

Long term

What will happen after sunday is still incertain. GFS came today with a warm scenario. Luckily the control runs and other models don't support this and even ECMWF favorites a colder scenario with fresh snow on Tuesday. More details tomorrow.

Powder Advice

Enoy the sun and the cold smoke blower pow on North faces. If you search there are still freshies available. For fresh snow you'b better head to Norway.
